When it comes to putting together an outfit, I think about color/pattern/texture combinations, but I don't particularly care what those colors express to others. I have my moments of bright and loud, but moments of soft and subtle as well. My clothing choices are for me and just happen to be along the lines of traditional or preppy (or whatever).
"Create your own visual style... let it be unique for yourself and yet identifiable for others." - Orson Welles
A customer visited my store (retail store, not the CKC Shoppe) over the weekend. The guy was 25, a regular, decked out in graphic tee and cargo shorts. We started discussing new spring items. I suggested he check out our traditional items, the sorts of things I like to wear. He knew I was joking and proceeded to ask about our young men's collection.
Despite our different thoughts on style, this guy thought about balance and proportion. He had a look and it worked for him.
We might not always make the best sartorial choices. Some might not even know what sartorial means. What's important is the thought put into an outfit for oneself, to feel good and hopefully look good too.

Have a great week!
Absolutely a great outfit. I am a huge lover of glen plaid. That Welles quote says it all doesn't it? Whatever your style, wear it well. And those shoes!! I have never seen anything or anyone so beautiful. God help me, I am a shoe whore.
ReplyDeleteJames - Greatest comment ever. I stumbled upon those shoes a couple months ago and the weather's just now permitting I wear them. I've emailed your 33%!
ReplyDeleteI'm a fan of the grey chinos. Do you have a seersucker outfit to wear w/ the wingtips though? That would be killer. Did you find them on the bay? Love the hat though. Maybe find a straw one for the ultimate summer touch. A hat, a G&T and some man cleavage (your ankles). Just use a touch of powder when you go sockless and you're all set.
ReplyDeleteI have a tan/white seersucker jacket and linen trousers in mind with the wingtips. I found the shoes at a local thrift shop. Honestly, they don't fit that well so I'll probably have them in the CKC Shoppe some time. Straw hats are a little impractical for me, but I have a couple madras driving caps worth considering.

Ah there's those white wingtips! They look amazing. Great outfit as well, it's subtle but powerful.
