Scottish from Head to Shoe

Vintage Crockett & Jones. Not sure what to think here. I'll be donning tartan trousers before I ever try tartan saddle shoes, but there's something pleasantly dandyful about these. Perhaps it's the rainy weather or the clearance corduroys I picked up today, certainly these shoes, that have me almost missing my winter wardrobe. Anybody else having the same feeling?

  1. I hate to disagree, but I love those shoes.

  2. James - Until this summer I couldn't have imagined wearing a madras blazer, now it's one of my favorite pieces. Perhaps if I obtained shoes like these, I'd figure a way to wear them well.

  3. What's the black watch part of the shoe made out of? It looks shiny in the picture, but I can't imagine a C&J shoe rolling with man-made materials like a plastic.

Pretty ridiculous shoes, though, in a good way. Like you said, though, they'll probably work better once it gets colder.

  4. Mister - I haven't noticed anything like this currently on their site, but I'm assuming it's a dyed, treated leather. I wish I could find something similar at the thrifts. I'm very fond of Ralph's new madras (fabric) and leather saddle shoes and loafers. Have you seen them?

  5. Delete the photo and all memory of it. It's summer mon ami, enjoy it, winter is way too long.

  6. Toad - No worries. I regained my love of summer today with the compliments I received on my madras blazer.

  7. Agreed with Toad that these are fall or winter shoes, however I don't think the post needs to be deleted.

These aren't quite go to hell shoes (like my patched madras boat shoes), but they are fanciful, and with an otherwise conservative and classic ensemble, I think they'd look neat after the leaves begin to turn.

  8. Kionon - My goal is to find something like these on eBay in the next few months so that when the time comes to break out tweed and corduroy, tartan won't be reserved only for my shirts and ties.
