Finding a unique jacket at the thrift is always nice, but it means much more when it comes from a local shop, especially one that's no longer around. Also, as an advertising guy, I simply love studying the evolution of old logos.

There may be no Kiton or Isaia to find at the local thrifts, but I'm quite fortunate to discover the occasional Oxxford piece. Today, I picked up this remarkable glen plaid sport coat from legendary Schwabe-May.

When you find a good suit, you know it. Today, I found a good suit. Actually, it's a f***ing awesome suit in a tremendously soft herringbone wool with a 3/4 lining and soft shoulders and flat-front trousers and those trousers contain an impeccably made, striped lining. 

Damn, I love thrifting.

Old Charleston

In browsing a Charleston archival photograph site, I came across this shot of a haberdashery, circa 1907. Of course, I just had to share my find. While I've yet to learn much about this place, I know it was one of the city's top retailers for a number of years. I find the tie display particularly interesting. These must have been something special, to be displayed so prominently. There also appear to be some shoes at the bottom of the window, with a suited mannequin on the back-left.

 Though I'm not sure when I'll get these to the CKC Shoppe, I just had to share my incredible find from Monday. Not pictured are five other jackets, clearly all donated from the same gentleman.

 Partially lined nailhead blazer. I've never seen anything quite like this.

National Seersucker Day

The Seersucker

2 ounces Flor de Cana white rum
1/2 ounce cinnamon schnapps
1 ounce lemon juice
1 1/2 strawberry
Muddle one strawberry, shake
ingredients with three ice cubes
and strain into a pilsner glass
with crushed ice. Garnish with
1/2 strawberry.

The Madras
 
1 1/2 oz Kettle One vodka
4 oz cranberry juice
1 oz orange juice
1 orange wedge
Shake ingredients with three ice
cubes and strain into a pilsner
glass with crushed ice. Garnish
with orange slice.
