Necktie Emporium Review

What's so special about this tie? Several things. First, it was sent to me by Necktie Emporium in order to write my first-ever sponsored product review. Second, it's unlike any tie I've worn since childhood. Third, I've been honored not only to receive this tie, but to have the opportunity to give it to my father, for a very particular reason.

I begin this review by reasserting my belief that any grown man should know how to tie a tie. However, not every man is physically capable of doing this, whether from arthritis, muscular dystrophy, stroke and so on. Several years ago my father had a stroke, and he has been without the use of his right arm since that time. Left completely incapable of setting a tie for himself, he began using clip-on ties.

Necktie Emporium offers a variety of traditional, clip-on (including bow ties), and zipper ties for both men and boys. Though when given the opportunity to choose any tie for review, I chose this clip-on specifically with my father's needs in mind. It's hard enough to find a clip-on for an adult, even harder to find a quality piece made of silk.

In picking this tie, I was blessed to find exactly what my father needed and wanted. The metal clip is incredibly sturdy, yet easy to put on or take off with only one hand. Not only did I attempt this at least twenty times, my father did as well and had no issues. The tie knot is hefty enough to fill the collar gap and create the illusion of a traditional tie. Beyond all this, as you can easily see in the photos, the tie is actually woven very well. Composed of 100% silk, the tie rather thick, very soft, and excellently stitched. A nice bonus with this piece is a lifetime warranty from the clip manufacturer.
Overall, I'm quite pleased with my experience. Necktie Emporium puts out a solid variety of products, including traditional ties which I look to order for myself some time soon. Moreover, this is a company that stands behind its products and offers quality at a low price, providing great value to the customer. From the first email I received about doing a review until the time my tie shipped, the company representative could not have been kinder nor more accommodating. I even received a personal letter in the tie box. My thanks go to Necktie Emporium and my readers for making something like this possible.

Style Share

In the mail today, courtesy of Mister Midwester's Style Share, arrived this beautiful green tie. I paired it with a green oxford, houndstooth blazer and marled grey cardigan.

Head over to Mister Midwester for more photos of this outfit in coming days, as well as all the excellent content of Mister Midwester, himself.

Falling Up

I've added several new ties and pocket squares to the fall rotation. Between eBay and thrift shops, the lot came in under forty dollars.

The top row features (my third) Robert Talbott patchwork, Lochcarron wool tartan, and J. Crew cotton tartan patchwork (shockingly, made in the USA).

The bottom row features silk ties from Polo, Robert Talbott, Polo, Robert Talbott, and yet again, Polo.

The purple pocket square is American-made dyed linen, while the pink and yellow pocket square is a Japanese silk, with hand-rolled edges.

Bruno Magli Blues

Blue boat shoes, sure. Blue tasseled kilties... in boat shoe form? Of course. This Italian-made Bruno Magli concoction just came in from eBay at under fifteen dollars and I can understand why. I waited several days to place a bid while I thought of how exactly to pull these off, but I've come to think of them as refined Topsiders. The most interesting detail, of which I was unaware until today, is that rather than leather or canvas lining, terrycloth is present to wick away moisture. Kilties on and jibe ho!

Cashmere at the CKC Shoppe

Six cashmere sweaters are now available at the CKC Shoppe, as well as a cotton/cashmere sweater vest.  Two free ties will be included in each order. Stop by soon, as these pieces will only be available through Thanksgiving!

The Game

What's the game?

It's the game, of course.

Really? This game is the game?

Absolutely.

At Home with the Hilfigers

The Hilfiger house should be condemned.

Hey, Tommy, what's so preppy about a girl in a bikini and ski goggles?

Not that I'm complaining, exactly... but not a [place expletive here] thing!

More Goat Fluff

Holy cashmere, trad man! Polo. Black. Cable. Cashmere. One dollar? Yes! May God bless the guy who gave up on this sweater with its only flaw being an easily-sewn hole the size of a pea. A quick stitch, a run of the lint roller and I'll be rocking my new 99.75% off goat fluff.

Feeling the Florsheim

Nubuck bucks? Suede saddles? A bit of both at $2.45. These unique Florsheims are just the sort of shoes I've been wanting for a long time. The chestnut-toned nubuck feels velvety-soft and has been very well maintained, while the leather has only a few subtle scratches. I believe I've found my new go-to shoe.

The Silk Pocket Square

I'm yet to find any information regarding Dumont, but there's no questioning the quality of this pocket square. The hand-rolled edges are in perfect shape, and there's neither a stain nor hole to be found. The price of twenty-five cents only makes it more perfect.

If you happen to know something about this brand, I'd love to hear it via comment!

The Suede Bag

Ever get the feeling you need to visit a thrift shop? You wake up with a hunch you'll strike something interesting or rare, and off you go. Anyway, this is how my morning went, and I couldn't be happier to have followed this inkling. Over the next few posts I'll display my haul. First up...

Vintage suede and leather travel bag, only $6.95, to be paired perfectly with my J. Peterman mailbag.

The Golf Sweater

An actual golf sweater that's anything but appropriate for golf.

Or the clubhouse.

Or even lunch at the club.

Or even mowing the lawn at the club.

It's as if Brooks Brothers printed an old Atari graphic on to this thing, and I have a feeling the dapper golfer on the sweater wouldn't be caught dead ever wearing this sweater.

Seriously, the guy who wears this should have to yell "fore" before anyone has to look at him.

Time for holiday shopping! Look for new items to finally hit the CKC Shoppe in the coming weeks.

Feeling Festive

Shirt - Polo Ralph Lauren
Tie - Gap vintage patchwork tartan
Pant - Polo Ralph Lauren corduroy
Shoes - Johnston & Murphy vintage boots, made in Italy

I know, I know. It's only the start of November but I'm already in the Christmas spirit with red and green. Actually, I should elaborate. My business is raising money for St. Jude Children's Hospital, so I've been wearing green to show support. And now that we're inching closer to the holidays, I've been working in touches of red for the sake of genuine festivity.

The patchwork tie is vintage Gap, though I received it only today from eBay. The shirt and pants were picked up via clearance deals earlier in the year. The boots were a four dollar thrift shop discovery last fall, and while the leather is somewhat worn, the soles are nearly perfect. Pretty decent kicks for casual days, I must say.
