Would You Wear This

Oh, the things one finds on eBay. If you're a 40L, I'd suggest looking up this jacket now.

Would you wear this?

  1. Yes, but only once per year, at my [insert greek organization] garden party.

I'm a 34S or a 34R (depending upon the brand), so I can never find nice jackets off the rack in the United States. Much easier in Japan.

  2. I come across a number of very old, small suits and sport coats at the thrift shops here. I'll check my stock for anything 34.

  3. Thanks for the comment.

Unfortunately, there are only two thrift shops and one Goodwill in driving distance, and the two thrift shops are directed towards the suburban high school set so pretty much all Abercrombie and Hollister. The Goodwill usually has at least one good item per visit, but I never get a "haul" there. You, Giuseppe at An Affordable Wardrobe, and a few other bloggers have way more options and opportunities than I do.

  4. I'm fortunate to have seven thrift shops in my town, a town that has a history of excellent menswear shops and an aging population often donating its collections of workwear. However, I'm frequently sifting through isles of junk, weeks at a time, before coming upon a "haul." As Giuseppe would agree, it's all about total persistence. When that one great find comes along, all the time spent is worth it. For example, I've found almost nothing but items for the CKC Shoppe this summer, very few things that work for me. Yet on one excursion, I discovered fifteen pair of shoes worth over $5000. Worth every minute.

I launched the CKC Shoppe to give those without such thrifting luck a look at truly vintage values. But still, keep thrifting and soon enough you'll discover your dream haul.

    Good luck!

  5. That jacket may be worse looking than the boat coat Giuseppe gave Boxing the Compass.

  6. I'm not sure. I think I'd rather wear a rainbow of seersucker than a chambray blueprint.

  7. Really? I'd wear the second more often than the first. As I said, I'd probably wear this once to a particular location where the southern prep colors are EXTREME, but not a matter of course. The chambray blueprint is kind of nice...
